COVID-19 Provides an Opportunity for Local Capacity Building

While COVID-19 presented many challenges for undertaking field work in Papua New Guinea, it also offered opportunities.

In 2020 ERIAS was engaged by Total Waste Management (TWM) to undertake environmental baseline surveys to support an environmental impact assessment. ERIAS’ in-country personnel were mobilised to the site, supported by TWM environmental personnel who were trained in collecting water samples. ERIAS provided procedural and remote support which allowed TWM personnel to collect samples during a period of flow and will enable site personnel to monitor water quality during project operations.

ERIAS proactively look for ways to build in-country capacity and to support our clients to develop their environmental management capability.
