We are proud to celebrate the contributions of the incredible women leaders within our team on International Women’s Day 2026.
ERIAS scientist, Nicole Frani recently conducted marine baseline surveys for Larus Energy in Papua New Guinea. In this post, Nicole shares her reflections on the experience and what it meant to contribute to this project.
“I was proud to be part of the ERIAS marine team delivering the marine biophysical baseline studies and impact assessment for Larus Energy’s Nanamarope 1 and 2 offshore petroleum drilling programs in 2025. During this campaign, I took on the role of field scientist and survey WHS lead. Our work involved sediment and water sampling, as well as benthic and pelagic fauna and habitat characterisation in waters ranging from 90 to over 1,000 metres deep on the southern continental shelf of Papua New Guinea.

Working aboard a survey vessel in strong swells and currents, while maintaining strict safety standards and processing environmental samples, certainly comes with its challenges. Early starts and long days are part of the job. But what stands out most to me is the teamwork. I’m grateful to have worked alongside colleagues, who were generous with their knowledge and always willing to guide and support one another.
This experience was challenging, both physically and mentally. It also reinforced something I strongly believe: when you are passionate about the work you do, you produce your best results”.
